Students in preschool through 6th grade presented the annual SMS Christmas program to a full-house audience on December 20th. Over 200 people gathered to hear the children share songs of joy as part of the Christmas musical, Miracle at Midnight.
The program opened with the preschool and kindergarten students lifting up their little, but mighty voices in 3 songs including a rousing rendition of Jingle Bells. Then the 1st through 6th grade students took the stage bringing Bethlehem to life. The mayor of Bethlehem and his assistant announced the new tax from Caesar Augustus while angels prepared for a big announcement. Shepherds and kings heard the message of the coming Messiah, and a young couple from Nazareth began a journey that would end in a humble stable. A miracle occurred that would change the world forever; the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!
Highlights of the program included a bright and bold welcome by the townspeople in the song, Good Morning, Bethlehem and a beautiful solo sung by the 6th grade student portraying Mary. The angels led a gospel song of praise, and the cowboy shepherds carried a catchy tune for Holy Light, Tonight. The 3 kings and their stubborn camel set the scene for the song, Bethlehem Bound and the program concluded with all characters gathered around the manger for Miracle at Midnight.
The 5th and 6th grade parents served delicious Christmas goodies after the show and everyone enjoyed time for fellowship. What an amazing event for our school community and a wonderful way to celebrate the true reason for the season, JESUS!
